After releasing one of our favourite albums of the year so far, ‘Seven Lies’, on South London’s 2nd Drop, Djrum returns with two stunning remixes-and we have the exclusive first stream.
Having harnessed the varying energies of his many influences to create the wonderfully layered ‘Seven Lies’ earlier this year, Djrum now turns his considerable talents to two reworks, due to be released next Monday 14th October. First up is his take on Audio Doughnuts affiliated MC Onoe Caponoe’s ‘Milkyway 1311’. Stripping the breezy after hours swagger of the original, Djrum ratchets up the intensity via the installation of a throbbing drum beat. Eerie vocal samples and strings only add to the drama on a track that bodes well for the forthcoming collaborations between the two.
As well as a dub of the ‘Milkyway 1311’ remix, the package comes with Djrum’s rerub of blue-eyed soul vocalist/instrumentalist Royce Wood Junior’s ‘Jodie’. A subtle but unrelenting kick provides the bedrock for Djrum’s treatment of Royce’s aching heart vocal and sombre pianos, as he crafts a lovelorn lament here.
Stream all three tracks below in advance of their release on limited edition coloured 10″ vinyl next Monday 14th October.
