Scuba – ‘The Hope’ (Hotflush Recordings)

Paul Rose aka Scuba will be releasing his second LP ‘Personality’ via the luminary Hotflush Recordings in March. The follow up to his prominent 2010 debut ‘Triangulation’ and last years DJ Kicks compilation is sure to provide more of the enduring sounds of one of the hardest working men in bass music. The debut single taken from ”Personality is ‘The Hope’ backed with exclusive B-side track ‘Flash Addict’.

‘The Hope’ is true audio hysteria. It’s a classic example of Scuba’s trademark raucous sound but combines a range of production styles to create something truly unique. The track is a dark, menacing world of savage drum kicks
punctuated with metallic arpeggios whilst the vocal narrates a hypnotic monologue that moves perfectly over a solid rhythm.

B-side “Flash Addict’ starts with a gradual, strategic build of light percussion’teamed with monstrous kicks before it builds into an almighty combination of razor-sharp synths teamed with a powerful groove – a great compliment to the lead single, with both musical styles twinned nicely.

‘The Hope’ is an exciting indication of what we can expect from ‘Personality’ when it drops later this year. Could it be there’s some kind of cryptic meaning in this debut song title? Doubtful. As head of one of the most revered labels in electronic music as well as two solid albums under his belt, 2012 is already looking to be a promising year for Paul Rose. No hope needed.
