A new documentary charting the life of the Reggae legend will premiere at the 14th East End Film Festival.
Lee Scratch Perry’s Vision of Paradise will make its UK Premiere at 14th east end film festival, followed by a Q+A with Lee and director Volker Schaner. Over the past 15 years Volker has documented Lee’s spiritual and geographic journey, travelling to Jamaica, Ethiopia, Germany, Switzerland and London. Told through a fairy tale-style narrative, the documentary follows Lee’s life from his work during the 1950s at Coxsone Dodd’s label, to the formation of The Upsetters and the rise and fall of his Black Ark studios, where he recorded with the likes of Bob Marley & The Wailers, Junior Murvin, The Congos and more.
Vision of Paradise also features insights from Dub and Reggae musicians, plus animations influenced by Ethiopian Orthodox Church art and the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine.
Lee Scratch Perry’s Vision of Paradise premieres Saturday 4th July at the Genesis Cinema, 91-93 Mile End Road, London, E1 4UJ. Tickets are available here.
