Footage of Snoop Dogg and Dam-Funk working on their anticipated ‘7 Days Of Funk’ project has surfaced on Youtube.
Constituting Snoop’s first single producer project since 1993’s legendary ‘Doggystyle’, the LP finds him working with Dam-Funk under the new Snoopzilla alias, in tribute to former Parliament/Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins who occasionally worked as Bootzilla. The LP looks to be a welcome return to the ‘classic’ Snoop sound, particularly for fans who were left feeling a little cold by his reggae output as Snoop Lion. With both the album and the pairing of Snoop and Dam-Funk called ‘7 Days Of Funk’, there’s little doubt aobut the musical leanings of the project.
The two first collaborated after Snoop invited Dam-Funk to play with him during at SSXW in 2011. Describing the musical connection they shared as natural Dam-Funk says, “Snoop knew what I was thinking without me having to articulate it. That’s how you know when you gel artistically with someone”. Full details on the LP, save for its December 10th release on Stones Throw, are relatively sparse at the moment, although first single ‘Faden Away’ ( which you can stream above ) sounds highly promising. A smoked out, bass heavy jam, it sits somewhere between classic P-Funk styles and Snoop’s own G-Funk.
Watch Snoop and Dam-Funk talking about the project from their L.A. studio ahead of 7 Days Of Funk’s December 14th release.
