‘Long Live Southbank’, an educational campaign film on the history of the closure threatened Southbank skate park, has been uploaded to Youtube.
The 15 minute short, which takes its name from the campaign dedicated to protecting the riverside skate park, touches on its 40 year history as well as covering the 9 month campaign to protect it after it was threatened with closure by the Southbank Centre earlier in the year. The arts centre wish to relocate the skate park 120 metres down the river front to a space underneath Hungerford Bridge in order as part of a proposed £120 million development project, although this has been vehemently opposed by the skaters themselves.
‘Long Live Southbank’ features interviews with the likes of UK Hip Hop stalwarts Rodney P and Skitz, pro skateboarder Geoff Rowley and MP Ben Bradshaw amongst others. Veteran DJ Jon Kennedy, songstress Tawiah and singer/songwriter Kyan also contributed music to the documentary.
