The Techno innovator muses on his home town in a new short for Bloc.
When you talk about House and Techno, you’re never far off referencing Detroit. A hallowed ground in the annals of electronic music mythology, its story is endlessly intriguing and many layered. Set to take his ‘Detroit Love’ concept to Bloc. 2015 next month alongside Omar-S, Levon Vincent, Moodymann and Moritz Von Oswald, Carl Craig has starred in a short film about the Motor City’s musical legacy as an appetite whetter of sorts.
Craig takes us through Detroit alternative culture by narrating us through his adolescence listening to Charles ‘The Electrifying Mojo’ Johnson’s seminal radio show – which brought together Prince and Kraftwerk, before moving on to his hero worship of ‘The Wizard’ era Jeff Mills and the importance of Jazz to the music of himself and his peers. With plenty of shots of Craig beavering in the studio and a bit of his trademark irreverent humour, this is a well shot warm up for next month’s festivities.
Carl Craig and more play Bloc. 2015 from 13th to 15th March. Buy tickets here.
