A test pressing of ‘Analogue Bubble Bath 5’ has been listed for sale.
Despite having many rarities and side projects, its clear that as far as Aphex Twin goes, ‘Analogue Bubble Bath 5′ is the Holy Grail in terms of collectability. Never formally released, in 2005 twenty copies were sent as gifts by Richard D. James’ Rephlex label to customers who’s order of ‘Analord 10’ hadn’t arrived on time. Now rarer than hen’s teeth, copies perhaps rather unsurprisingly have been known to go for more than £7,000 – a figure which would cause even the ballsiest new owner of Loefah’s ‘Midnight’ to blush.
This week has seen an eBay account belonging to East London’s Vinyl Pimp store has listed a copy of the LP for sale, with bidding having broken the £150 mark already at the time of writing ( Wednesday 10th December). Said to previously have been owned by a friend of AFX’s, the copy is in “very good condition” with little to no damage. Currently nine days from the end of auction period, there’s every chance that this copy could go for something approaching a five figure sum.
