The multinational group’s self-titled LP is available to listen to in full on NPR.
A true product of the post-globalisation era, Future Brown contains members from as far afield as Kuwait, New York and Los Angeles. Hyperdub affiliate and Sino-Grime enthusiast Fatima Al-Qadiri is perhaps the most well known member – she’s joined by Daniel Pineda and Asma Maroof of Nguzunguzu and J-Cush from NYC label Lit City Trax.
Available to stream now via NPR, the self-titled album will be released on Warp 23rd February. A melange of contemporary club sounds that can’t help but sound impossibly ‘now’, vocalists are featured on every track, from emerging Chicago rapper Tink on opener ‘Room 302’ (listen below) and ‘Wanna Party’, to baritoned London city warlord Riko Dan on ‘Speng’ and Fade To Mind chanteuse Kelela on ‘Dangerzone’. Ruff Sqwad’s Roachee, Prince Rapid and Dirty Danger also appear on exotically flavoured Grime cut ‘Asbestos’, helping to provide a strong balance of voices from both sides of the Atlantic.
‘Future Brown’ is 23rd February on Warp. Pre-order it here.
