Lobster Theremin are to put out the ‘Remote Viewer’ EP, the debut release from enigmatic Londoner Snow Bones aka. Rob Hare.
Its set to be the label’s second release following its inauguration last month with the acclaimed ‘Equation’ EP by fellow newcomer Palm Trax, although this latest offering is decidedly darker than the first release. Said to have blown the mastering console at studio D&M four times during post-production due to its ferocity, the four tracks on offer here look set to appeal to those who like their techno with a hefty helping of grit and intensity.
The title track sets the tone for the rest of the EP with its submerged kicks pulsing beneath metronomic hats, instantly creating that elusive 4am dancefloor vibe. ‘SHO 5537’ is the EP’s blackened centrepiece, with Hare pairing his unforgiving rhythmic assault with a barrage of white noise for maximum effect.
‘Cubic’, on the flip, takes closer towards House with its lightly undulating groove and intermittent chords. Jared Wilson’s rework of ‘SHO 5537’ meanwhile, discards virtually all semblances of the original and ends up as a melodious 303 Jam.
