The 2014 edition of Red Bull Music Academy is to take place in Tokyo, it has been announced.
After the last 15 years have seen stints in Cape Town, London, Toronto, New York and Melbourne, 2014’s Red Bull Music Academy will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan. The Academy typically consists of a year long stint of lectures, workshops, showcases and events with some of the music world’s most prestigious names, with the likes of Erykah Badu, Steve Reich and James Murphy ( formerly of LCD Soundystem ) all appearing at previous editions. Applications to be involved in the academy are open to anyone ‘with a strong yen for music and its desire to be involved in its evolution’, and will be available from January 2014.
Those looking for a taste of what to expect once RBMA hits Tokyo need look no further than this year’s weekender in the city ( which took place last weekend ). The four day event took in seminars, performances and shows from a mixture of artists and figures including; Ninja Tune and Brainfeeder affiliate Daedelus, Japanese Hip-Hop sensei DJ Krush and experimental techno outfit Diamond Version.
