Pedestrian a.k.a. Jack Sibley, makes his full solo debut on 2nd Drop Records later this month with the ‘Kalakuta/Ndizi’ 12″.
The versatile young British producer returns with two Afro-beat indebted cuts on the label that has previously released tunes from the likes of Ramadanman, DjRUM and Alex Coulton.
Kalakuta, a collaboration with childhood friend Luke Tomlinson aka Jasperdrum, takes its name from legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti‘s Kalakuta Republic compound, and his influence is apparent here. Tribal percussion sits atop rich sub on a track which bears traces of early DMZ yet pulses with the dynamism of House.
Second cut Ndizi, sees Sibley up the ante, as the levels of bass are raised and the drums manically skewed. Lurching about with feverish intensity, this one is primed to shake up the dance.
Accompanied by killer artwork from respected illustrator Jimmy Turrell, this one is already receiving support from LV, Gilles Peterson and Dark Sky amongst others.
You can preview and pre-order the record from here ahead of its release on 26th July.
