The electronics giant displays the new version of the iconic Technics SL-1200 direct-drive record player at the CES 2016 tradeshow in Las Vegas.
First announced at IFA Berlin in September last year, Panasonic’s new player will take the classic ‘SL-1200’ name of the original Technics turntables.
The machine is a direct response to the recent surge in sales of vinyl, which increased 56% last year in the UK alone, reaching their highest mark since 1994.
If you want to get your hands on one, you won’t have too long to wait – a limited edition version (1200 units because, duh) with a magnesium tonearm is set for the summer, before the non-limited version follows later on in the year.
Aimed at audiophiles and DJs alike, the focus is on high end quality, so it’ll likely set you back a few quid – prices are expected to be in the region of several thousand pounds.
