Bethnal Green’s Oval Space is to host a 30th anniversary of cult classic film ‘Wild Style’ alongside talks and DJ sets on Saturday 7th December.
Released in 1983, ‘Wild Style’ is now regarded as one of the most important films on Hip-Hop culture ever made. Loosely based around the trials and tribulations of ‘Zoro’, a young graffiti artist in New York, the film extensively features all elements of early Hip-Hop including; MC’ing, turntablism, graffiti and B-Boying, and includes cameos from seminal figures such Fab Five Freddy, Grandmaster Flash and the Rocksteady Crew. Having made an indelible mark on Hip-Hop culture since its release, dialogue from the film has been sampled by everyone from Nas to DOOM and it has even been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The screening at Oval Space will be preceded by an introductory talk at 8.30pm although doors will open and food will be served from 7.30pm. Check out the trailer below.
Following the screening of ‘Wild Style’ will be DJ sets from Radio 1 resident and UK Hip-Hop veteran Tim Westwood, Eglo head honcho Alex Nut, Mercury Prize nominated maverick Ghostpoet and party starting trio Patchwork Pirates.
