The Bristol-based producer unveils his first solo record for his own Cosmic Bridge imprint.
Jim Coles aka Om Unit has just announced his new EP on his Cosmic Bridge label – ‘Torchlight Vol. 1’, which will be released July 31. Although he started the label in 2011 with the brilliant ‘Solar Cycle/Merkabah’ in collaboration with Kromestar, he has yet to release a solo effort on Cosmic Bridge despite remixing and collaborating with Moresounds, Danny Scrilla and EAN, as well as curating ‘Cosmology’, which was nominated for DJ Mag’s compilation of the year.
His latest offering comes after 2014’s well-received ‘Inversion’ EP for Metalheadz. Cole is currently on an extensive summer tour that sees him visit the US as well as playing slots at festivals such as Shambala and Croatia’s Outlook.
Here’s what Coles had to say about the EP:
“This record is the result of many studio jams using outboard gear and less rules. Applying these almost non-techniques to the 160bpm bass music template I was seeking new ideas by breaking up the work flow. The result whilst some might say is not a million miles away from music I’ve made before, is a step further out of the box I feel I have helped create somehow.”
In the run up to the relase next month, Om Unit has shared an exclusive mix on his Soundcloud – a compilation of some of the best music released on Cosmic Bridge in the past four years, as well as tracks on upcoming records from Danny Scrilla and new signings DJ Madd, J Kenzo, j(ay)a.d. and Neuropol.
