This May’s event in Lyon is taking shape.
For 13 years now, Nuits Sonores has transformed the French city of Lyon for five days a year into a, ‘free-spirited city’ based around a, ‘..culture and spirit of top-quality music, curiosity and new encounters.’ Around 40 locations in the city are transformed each year to play host to a finely curated line up from electronic music and beyond. The festival has long been highly respected throughout Europe and around the world, and last year it was even immortalised by Floating Points’ chugging epic of the same.
As with 2014, this year’s event will see Nuits Sonores returned to Lyon’s Confluence neighborhood for five days – from May 13th to 17th. The programme is once again split into day and night events, with the former held in an Le Sucriére – an abandoned sugar factory. Ben Klock, John Talabot and Jamie XX have been put in charge of curation for the daytime programme, with the Ostgut Ton lynchpin kicking things off Thursday 14th. His eclectic line-up of influences will see the likes of Goldie, Shackleton, Pev and Kowton join him, with the following day finding Talabot playing alongside Joy Orbison, Genius of Time, Barnt and more. The Saturday meanwhile sees Jamie XX joined by Jon Rust, Real Lies and others.
The majority of the night time programming will take place in former wholesale supermarket Ancien Marché de Gros across three rooms. To open festivities, the Wednesday will see Tale of Us and Daniel Avery both host a room – with Factory Floor, Voices From The Lake, Recondite, Nils Frahm, KiNK, Answer Code Request and more appearing on the night, with the third room dedicated to ‘Eastern’ electron sounds.
The following evening sees events spread across the city, with acts such as Ghostpoet, DJ Qu and Clap! Clap! and Gerd Janson appearing split over 15 different venues. Friday then features DJ Deep, Blue Daisy, Kelela, Carl Craig and Moodymann as highlights, with the Saturday bringing performances from Jon Hopkins, The Orb and this week’s YouTube Sessions contributor Rone. Things are all rounded off on the Sunday with a 12 hour party featuring Laurent Garnier, Marcel Dettmann and Rødhåd.
Nuits Sonores takes place from May 13th to 17th. For full details and tickets head over to their official website.
