Nozinja, the pivotal figue behind the South African dance fusion genre ‘Shangaan Electro’, has signed to legendary label Warp.
Championed by a range of producers, such as Caribou, Actress, Mount Kimbie and Pearson Sound, Nozinja has seen his fusion become popular far beyond the borders of his native South Africa. A fusion of local Folk music, Tsonga Disco, Kwaito and South African House, Shangaan Electro has been one of the most interesting mutations of dance music to pop up around the world over the last few years. The ‘Shangaan Shakes’ compilation on Honest Jon’s back in 2012 featured remixes from a slew of high profile selectors, including Theo Parrish, Ricardo Villalobos and Rashad and Spinn, whilst Nozinja himself has remained consistently prolific throughout-with last year finding dropping some heat on Caribou’s Jialong imprint. Cast your eye over the short feature from Dazed Digital below for an idea of what to expect.
