New Trevor Jackson Record To Be Released Across 12 Different Formats

The apply named ‘F O R M A T’ project arrives in February, spread across a series of analogue platforms…

The limited edition album will materialise in a dozen different formats, each containing an individual track. The Vinyl Factory are producing 12″, 10” and 7” vinyl, CD, mini CD, cassette, USB, VHS, mini disc, DAT, 8-track and reel-to-reel to hold the music. ‘F O R M A T’ will be Jackson’s first output after a 14 year hiatus, and its physical platforms address changes in the way we engage with music. Jackson explains: “culturally everything’s become so convenient and easily accessible whilst in the process totally disposable”. ‘F O R M A T’ returns a sense of individuality to the music: “every copy of a physical recording is different, a real object that has its own little story – a one of a kind, personalised by the effort it took to purchase and the unique ritual that goes with playing it. I want the people who purchase these items to feel special; they will be the only ones who possess these tracks in any form at that time.”

The tracks themselves have been selected from over 150 unreleased pieces in Jackson’s back catalogue, and have been re-edited and re-mastered to producer the new album. Musically, they touch upon “synth and beatbox workouts, proto-house, new wave, on Italo and techno, on ambient and psychedelia, the tracks are, the same time, none of these things.” The official release is the 25th February, with a collected vinyl and digital edition to be released the following month.

An exhibition will run at The Vinyl Factory early next year in conjunction with the release where fans can listen to the album and buy the limited edition tracks.
