New Documentary Looks At Hip-Hop’s Birth

‘Bronx 79’ brings together key players from the early days of Hip-Hop.

Long before rappers had their own Vodka brands and traveled the world in private jets, Hip-Hop had distinctly humble beginnings. The subject of much mythologizing in the past, new documentary Bronx 79 will, ‘provide the definitive history of the birth of Hip-Hop culture’. Exact information on the doc’s release date is thin on the ground, other than that it will be coming out through PMISH Films.

Built around first person interviews, the trailer for Bronx 79 below shows Hip-Hop lifers such as DJ Disco Wiz, photographer Joe Conzo and ‘Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop’ author Jeff Chang, as they tell the story of an early jam thrown by legendary jock Kool Herc.
