Kings Place in London have launched a new freestyle/vocal competition to celebrate musical culture and experimentation with different styles.
Inspired by Mozart Unwrapped – a series of concerts and events celebrating the life and works of Mozart also running at Kings Place – Mozart (un)Rapped invites rising vocalists to submit freestyles, raps and songs online or via iPhone using one of seven backing tracks specifically designed for this competition.
The backing tracks featured in the competition fuse live samples of the Aurora Orchestra playing Mozart, with contemporary, creative production, from artists such as Throwing Snow, British reggae legends Black Slate and Bristol-based electronics whizz Al Tourettes to create ‘Mozart in Trenchtown’, ‘Mo Wolf’ and ‘Wolfgang’s Cutlery’.
Sponsored by the likes of SoundCloud, RJDJ and Shure, the competition entries will be judged by participating artists. Prizes include microphones, recording sessions, festival tickets and magazine subscriptions and the three winners will be asked to perform their track live at the grand finale at Kings Place on 24th July, which also features DJ sets from Bailey (1xtra) and d-Bridge (EXIT, Rinse FM)
The submission deadline is 20th July 2011 visit the Kings Place Unwrapped website for more information.
