The rapper is set to celebrate the 15th anniversary of his classic debut by playing three shows around the country.
Now known principally under his chosen name of Yasiin Bey, ‘Black On Both Sides’ is still widely regarded as one of the crowning achievements of the actor/model/activists career. Released in 1999 following his collaborative (and also classic) album with Talib Kweli as Black Star, ‘Black On Both’ sides was instantly revered as a shining example of socially conscious Hip-Hop thanks to its whipsmart lyrics and finely picked beats. Guest appearances on the record came from the likes of Q-Tip and Busta Rhyme, whilst DJ Premier and Diamond D all chipped in on production.
Following his resurrection of Black Star for a UK tour earlier this year, Mos Def/Yasiin Bey is flying back to these shores for a string of dates in November with Soundcrash. Fans will be treated to his debut album in its entirety plus a smattering of hits from his back catalogue, with special guests expected to appear. Starting out 21st November, he’ll play the O2 Academy in Leeds, followed by shows at London’s Forum and Bristol’s O2 Academy, on the 22nd and 27th respectively.
