Pinch’s label, Tectonic Recordings, announce the release of Dark Sky’s next 12″ on March 18.
Tectonic began life as a dubstep label and, like so many others, have made the familiar transition away from the 140BPM template, but still keeping the low-end emphasis that runs through the entire catalogue. Starting out with dubstep’s old guard – Skream, Kryptic Minds, Distance, Peverelist, Loefah, Benga et al. – they’ve gradually worked towards a more contemporary club sound, notching up material from Roska, Beneath, Kevin McPhee, Illum Sphere and Addison Groove on the way.
Dark Sky are a perfect fit. Their productions harbour dubstep, garage, funky and grime in a similar way to latest Tectonic releasee Beneath‘s, and have been picked up by Modeselektor‘s 50Weapons, Black Acre, Naked Naked and Pictures Music. Both ‘Confunktion’ and ‘Double U’ are exemplary of the London trio’s twisted take on elements of all the above genres, and further carve out what is quickly becoming their own sound.
