Juke and footwork come to London this weekend, as Womp bring two of the burgeoning scenes pioneers to XOYO.
The Jukes of Hazzard event takes place this Friday October 28, with deejays Spinn and Rashad headlining what could be the capital’s first ever large(ish) scale dedicated juke/footwork event.
The chance to see these two in a club is not to be sniffed at. Having brought the murderous BPM’s of the Chicago footwork sound to the wider world through his ‘Footwork Essentials’ mixtape, and releases on labels like Juke Trax and Planet Mu, Rashad, alongside team mate DJ Spinn (who’s been called “the living embodiment of all things juke”), is responsible for pushing one of the most energetic new genres on the planet.
Jukes of Hazzard is part of a wider project that aims to spread the juke sound further, taking in a compilation featuring artists all over the world who have made juke or juke and footwork influenced tracks, a documentary filmed in London, Chicago and New York, plus a short web series outlining the juke culture.
Rashad and Spinn will be joined by Gettozoid, Anxst and Fracture on the night, and you can grab £7 advance tickets here. You can also stream a track from Planet Mu’s forthcoming ‘Bangs & Works Vol. 2’ compilation from Gantman & DJ Rashad below.
