Night Slugs producer Jam City set to release debut album on May 28.
London-based producer and youngest member of the Night Slugs imprint, Jack Latham aka Jam City, brings us a stunning debut, an eclectic fusion of soft jazz tones with the label’s signature industrial sound. This is a record which bears the energy of Latham’s teenage years, with distinct references to pop; complimenting the pulsing 120bpm basslines.
There is a definite futuristic vibe to ‘Classical Curves’ which cements Night Slugs‘ reputation as one of the pioneers of the ‘UK Bass’ movement, harking back to the label’s earlier successes such as ‘Wut’ by Girl Unit and Bok Bok‘s ‘Silo Pass’.
The LP’s bonus track ‘The Nite Life’ exhibits Jam City‘s scope as a producer, pressing euphoric synths of a slower tempo against the rolling vocals of Oakland duo Main Attrakionz. Throughout the album there is a sense of both hope and dread, as Jam City crafts senses of violence and emotion.
Out on May 28, this is certain to be one of the most talked-about albums of the year. See artwork above, and below is full tracklisting.
