J.Tijn Drops First Release On Untold’s Pennyroyal Label

The debut EP on Untold’s new techno imprint comes from London producer J.Tijn.

Untold continues to demonstrate his affection for botanical poisons with Pennyroyal, the record label venture he announced back in February. Hoping to emulate the co-run successes of Hemlock Recordings, his new solo mission is one “dedicated to releasing rough and ready techno”, and the first release does exactly that.

The man assigned the task is up-and-coming Londoner, J.Tijn, a producer who has previously featured on Turbo Recordings’ 2012 compilation ‘New Jack Techno’ and is scheduled for a release on Jon Convex’s Convex Industries label later this year. His ‘Jack-2’ EP on Pennyroyal comprises three tracks of brain-melting techno, showing derivation from 90s industrial sounds, through to the wonky exploits of Subhead and the modern analogue power of Karenn.

The A-side title track is truly savage – a distorted assault of kicks, hats and sirens – and the B-side offers little relief, with ‘Fucklebucks’ jackhammering its way through to the freaky mess of ride cymbals and robotic glitches that is ‘Hammershoofd’. We’re genuinely excited to hear what else this label and producer have up their sleeves. You can grab the ‘Jack-2’ EP here and stream the tracks below.
