South-East London’s premier purveyor of quality bass-driven electronica, West Norwood Cassette Library, has unveiled previews of an upcoming 4 track EP from newcomer J. Tijn.
Having recently delivered a stunning mix for us, the local is cementing his place as one of the capital’s hottest new talents and this latest collection encompasses an impressive array of styles and influences.
Opener ‘Flat’ has distinct shades of the Motor City, with a raw yet melodic bassline underpinning the skittering of rough filtered hi-hats and hazy pads that harken more to the suburbs of Detroit than the suburbs of London. Meanwhile, ‘Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub’ brings us a bit closer to home with a decidedly more technoid approach, with the looping acidic lead finds itself comfortably positioned amongst the wealth of techno talent emerging from Britain at the moment.
On the flip, ‘U U U’ sees dubbed out Basic Channel-esque pads melt into the kind of frenzied percussion we’ve come to expect from Shed. ‘Decimated’ rounds off the EP with straight-up jacking techno for the dance floor, bringing a varied collection of tracks from J. Tijn to a close. Stream previews below.
