Illuminations returns today for its third instalment, continuing until the 7th November.
Kicking things off last night at Hackney Picturehouse was ‘Wild Combination’, a documentary telling the story of the mysterious Arthur Russell through ‘archive footage, interviews with friends and collaborators and most importantly thorough his musical output.’ Another doc gets shown tonight at the Picturehouse – Fugazi‘s ‘Instrument’. A collaboration with filmmaker Jem Cohen and the band, the project was shot and edited over 10 years and is ‘part concert film, part documentary, 100% Fugazi.’
Peaking Lights perform the first live event of the series tomorrow evening at Plan B, after recently releasing their fourth album ‘Cosmic Logic’ earlier this month. On the 29th, ‘Channel 4’s Random Acts – The Music Videos’ is screened at the Picturehouse – a ‘ground-breaking series of music pieces that commissions original film-makers’. On the 30th it’s ‘MTV’s 120 Minutes’ – featuring the ‘most shocking & sensational videos from the vault’. The following night there’s a special Halloween performance from the original ‘Godfather of Gore’ Fabio Frizzi and his orchestra.
The days that follow feature live performances from the likes of Liars, Peggy Sue and The Choir Of Echoes, Sébastien Tellier, Shabaz Palaces, Melt Yourself Down & James Chance and Grumbling Fur & Mark Titchner performing ‘Rose’.
