Hyperdub continue to stretch their ever-morphing A&R skills with a 4 track EP from London’s enigmatic Hype Williams.
Named after the legendary US hip-hop director, the duo (or multi member 18 year long ‘relay project’, depending on what you read), release the imaginatively titled ‘Kelly Price W8 Gain EP Vol II’ through Kode9’s label on July 4.
Comprised of 4 tracks of hazy, dubbed out electronica, taking in the hypnotic gaze of Inga Copeland’s vocals on ‘Rise Up’, the dub inversions of ‘Boss Man’, the 90s-leaning synth waves of ‘Farthing Wood Dub’, and ‘Badmind’s spoken narrative meets classic ‘Ice Rink’-era Wiley.
Adding another string to their already bristling sonic bow, these tracks don’t seem at all out of place on Steve Goodman’s former dubstep label, which has seen a flurry of activity in recent weeks with forthcoming releases from new UK funky man Ossie, and DOK’s cracked grime anthem ‘West Coast’.
