The label will put out previously unreleased tracks from the late Footwork pioneer as well co-hosting a night in London in the build up to the release.
Hyperdub have announced they will release the ‘6613 EP’ on June 29, a collection of tracks from the vaults of the late great DJ Rashad that were previously only heard in his live sets. A year on from his untimely passing, Kode9 and co. will put out the four-track that’s been described as a ‘strong EP of moods and styles’ – continuing his legacy as the tireless innovator of Chicago’s Footwork sound. All proceeds from the release will go to Rashad’s family.
Rashad was one of the founding members of esteemed Footwork group Teklife alongside DJ Spinn, and helped take the frantic club sound and wider culture from Chicago around the globe. We paid tribute to Rashad last year with a collection of our favourite tracks from his vast legacy of work.
In the build up to the release Hyperdub have teamed up with London’s genre-smashing club night/record label House Of Trax to bring us a night of cutting edge club sounds from the US and UK. Taking over Corsica Studios on June 11 will be the first lady of Jersey Club and Brick Bandits member UNiiQU3, alongside Teklife family member DJ Taye. Joining them on the night will be Hyperdub boss Kode9, House of Trax residents Fools and Rushmore and a special unnamed Hyperdub guest. Check out the event page and buy tickets for the night here.
‘6613’ will be released 29 June on Hyperdub. Pre-order a copy here.
