A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to save the floating nightclub
The MS STUBNITZ is in danger. The East German Fishing Boat travels around European port cities and functions as a venue for a variety of music and performance arts events. The vessel is currently docked for class renewal in Hamburg’s Norderwerft shipyard. This renewal is a requirement if it’s to retain it’s operational licence for another five years. The Stubnitz management department is calling out for a broad stakeholder community to help make a financial contribution to the conservation of cultural venue.
The money being raised is to cover the cost of docking while the ship is undergoing the reworks which will be done largely by volunteers. At the time of writing this article, over €7000 has been risen of the target goal of €50’000.
An official campaign statement reads, “Through a class renewal in 2014, the operating license of MS STUBNITZ will be maintained for another five years. The inspections must be Carried out in the dry dock. They include inspections of propellers, rudders, and an overhaul of the underwater fittings and inspection of the outer layer. In the course of the inspections the underwater paint so want to be redone. In order to maintain the Stubnitz as to event ship and maritime monument, your support is needed.”
The MS Stubnitz docked in London back in 2012 for Bloc festival which was set to feature Ricardo Villalobos, Snoop Dogg, Orbital, Steve Reich and more but got cancelled due to unfortunate circumstances.
The Stubnitz crew are inviting all supporters to a party on Friday, October 10th. More info to follow shortly via Facebook and their website.
