A standout track from Hall’s Boiler Room B2b with Funkineven last night, the soulful techno of ‘Measure2Measure’.
The album, entitled ‘The Boat Party’, will be released under Hall’s KMFH alias, and is typically conceptual, said to be aimed at a musical comparison between the European craze of summer boat parties and the discarded luxury of a destitute Detroit (emphasised by the ironic album artwork below).
Kyle Hall is generally-hailed as the star of Detroit’s new breed, cutting his teeth in singles for his own, excellent Wild Oats label as well as UK output Hyperdub, and sometime in collaboration with Kero and Eglo Records‘ Funkineven, as Funkinevil.
‘Measure2Measure’ buries a sampled vocal in robotic and blatently organic drums. It’s stripped back to the max; the top line’s melody and catchy hook neatly compressed around the rough percussion. The classic ideas and modern execution embody his appeal and begin the wait for one highly-anticipated LP.
Catch Hall at fabric’s ‘Curators Of Techno’ event on March 30. More details here.
