The first creative comment (as far as we can tell) from London’s producer community has surfaced on the web.
Taking the form of ‘This is London (2011 Riots Remix)’ by renowned UK bass journalist/dj/label owner Martin ‘Blackdown’ clark and production partner Dusk, the track is a re-tweak of their 2008 ‘Margins Music’ album track ‘This is London’.
Featuring an extensive sample of a particularly clued up Hackney resident being interviewed by a journalist during the riots, the track outlines many of the arguments currently circulating around the country as to why last week’s violence came about, and how best to combat it.
Blackdown has long been a chronicler of London’s underground culture, both social and musical. You’ll find his own personal thoughts on the 2011 riots here, and some remarkable images of the events unfolding from photographer Henry Langston here. You preview the track below, and also the original interview with the voice it features.
