The veteran trio are set to put out a mixtape with two of Hip-Hop’s most respected producers.
In news that will get the mouths of Hip-Hop fans from all over watering, Dave from De La Soul recently confirmed to XXL magazine that him and the group were set to commence work on the project in September. Slated to be titled, ‘Premiem Soul On The Rocks’, the tape will surprisingly mark the first time all three of these ‘Golden Age’ figures have worked together.
Exact details are thin on the ground, with Dave telling XXL, “The guys have been sending us beats. No real idea of what the theme is gonna be, the theme behind the title, what that’s gonna be, if it’s gonna be skits, if it’s gonna be songs, remakes, whatever it is. Right now we’ve just been accumulating beats and waiting for Premier to handle some stuff as well. So it’s still in its early stages, but we actually plan on recording through the month of September for it, so we’re getting on it.”
The mixtape is just the latest addition to what has been a busy year so far for the group. Valentines Day saw them upload their entire back catalog to Dropbox for free download (for a limited time), whilst the following month marked the release of ‘Smell the D.A.I.S.Y’ – a free mixtape comprised entirely of J-Dilla beats released via BitTorrent. There’s also an eigth studio album, ‘You’re Welcome’, scheduled to drop before the end of the year.
