The former Talking Heads frontman has unveiled the artists set to join him at Southbank Centre this August.
Joining the likes of Morrissey, David Bowie and Massive Attack who have overseen previous editions, David Byrne will helm this year’s Meltdown Festival from Monday 17th to Sunday 30th August. The Scottish born musician and New Wave icon’s icon is best known for his work as part of Talking Heads during the late 70’s and 80’s, although he’s also enjoyed success as a solo artist and a collaborator with the likes of Arcade Fire, Brian Eno and St.Vincent. His curation of Meltdown 2015 will see acts such as Drone Metal pin-up’s Sunn O)) (18th August), singer-songwriter Anna Calvi (22nd August), aptly named Chicago eight piece Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (20th August), and experimental producer Matthew Herbert (23rd August) lead the way at London’s Southbank Centre.
Interestingly there will also be a performance of the work of cult Nigerian artist William Onyeabor – who saw his music introduced to the wider world via a retrospective on Byrne’s Luaka Bop label, under the banner of Atomic Bomb! (20th August). Check out Byrne talking his way through his selections in the video below and find out more about tickets – which go on sale to Southbank Centre members next Wednesday 6th May then Friday 8th May to the public, here.
