The former Talking Heads frontman performs with Future Wife as part of his Meltdown series at London’s Southbank Centre.
OBIE award-winning playwright Young Jean Lee will take to the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall with her band, Future Wife, for a performance made up of songs and monologues. David Byrne will be performing with the band as part of his Meltdown takeover. The show has been described as ‘a life-affirming, humorous show about the thing everyone has in common: we’re gonna die.’
‘We’re Gonna Die’ narrates Lee’s experiences of loneliness and the comfort she found in simple and unexpected things following the death of her father.
Here’s what David Byrne had to say about Young Jean Lee’s show:
‘I’ve seen this performed twice. In this version I’ll be playing the role of the person who sings the responses to the stories that Young Jean Lee tells. And I’m excited to be part of it. I’m a huge fan of what she does. She is bringing together music and theatre in a different way that I think is pretty exciting.’
Young Jean Lee’s ‘We’re Gonna Die’ comes to London’s Southbank Centre 27-30 August. More info and tickets here.
