This Thursday evening will see the final instalment of the Church of Sound first birthday programme, inviting the mighty Florian Pellisier Quintet over from Paris for a special live performance.
Celebrating a year of existence, the event organistation has recently hosted the likes of London based afro-jazz group Maisha, as well as a a trainers only dance with broken beat pioneers Dego & Kaidi Tatham. Tonight Church of Sound throw spotlight on Florian Pellissier’s great jazz quintet, with two alternate performances that see the group pay tribute to France’s early jazz scene and perform purely original material.
Florian’s love for Blue Note’s mid 60s hard bop catalogue led him from the cellars of Saint Germain to a music school in New York, where he studied alongside Robert Glasper. Pellissier and the group of musicians who have been loyal to him for over a decade have stayed the course, remaining true to the 60s aesthetic of their sound & those notorious French Blue Note recordings.
Lexus & Born Cheating will be spinning records before & after the music, with doors open at 7:30pm and all proceeds from the booking fees going to charity via Party for the People.
