‘Here I Am’ features Lisa Leone’s intimate portraits of some of Hip Hop and RnB’s biggest names.
The key to taking great photos can be down to a lot of things – although there’s no substitute for being in the right place at the right time. That was certainly the case for Lisa Leone – the “b girl with the camera”, who came up towards the tail end of the 80’s in New York as Hip-Hop was in the ascendancy. Rubbing shoulders with those who were already famous or just on the cusp, she managed to capture amazing shots of figures now revered as icons. Collated in a new book entitled, ‘Here I Am‘, are photos of the likes of Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Issac Hayes that, “open portals to the sounds, places and, most important, the people who forged and continue to influence the energy that is hip hop.”
