It’s no secret that vinyl has been enjoying a huge resurgence over the past few years, but this Saturday, Rough Trade East is holding a day to celebrate another dead format that may not be as widely appreciated, the humble cassette tape.
Much in the same vein as the increasingly popular Record Store Day, the cunningly named Cassette Store Day is a celebration of one of the cheapest and most accessible physical format around. To mark the occasion, a wide range of labels are releasing special edition tapes, with the likes of JJ Doom and Animal Collective all making their way onto magnetic strips cased in plastic. If that wasn’t enough there’s also set to be live appearances from artists such as Omar Souleyman and Jen Long at the Rough Trade store on Brick Lane.
There’s no need to pick up wristbands and entry is free, so there’s no reason not to get a bit nostalgic this weekend and head to East London to enjoy a bit of the fun. For more information head to the event page here.
