Artists show support for fabric in wake of permanent closure

The iconic London club has been forced to close its doors forever.

In the early hours of this morning, beloved London nightclub fabric was forced to close permanently, following a licensing review by Islington Council at Islington Town Hall.

fabric voluntarily closed its doors for a weekend last month following two drug related deaths, and then had its license temporarily suspended for 28 days. In the run up to the licensing review last night, a petition started by DJ Jacob Husley amassed nearly 150,000 signatures to show support for fabric and its benefit to London, and nightlife culture as a whole.

In its report, Islington council said: “The extent of the drug use was such that security and staff would have or should have been able to observe not only the use of drugs but also the effect of drug use on a large number of patrons.”

Dozens of artists who’ve played fabric over the years have shared fond memories and voiced their anger at the closure on social media, including Benji B, Skream, Carl Craig, Jackmaster and The Black Madonna.
