The London multi-instrumentalist selects a dizzying array of sounds on Hyp 292.
XOA is the solo/collaborative project from Londoner Nick Tyson, who debuted with Aiye Le on Dan Shake’s imprint last year – which featured vocals from Fela Kuti’s musical director, Dele Sosimiand – followed by the impressive ONE_001 EP, which featured contributions from Anthony Joseph, Lea Lea and remixes from Orchards and Byron The Aquarius.
Tyson’s next effort is an upcoming release on Soundway Records, which will include collaborations with some of London’s finest musicians, including drummer Marijus Aleksa, saxophonist Josh Arcoleo and vocalist Eva Lazarus. Remixes will be provided by Glenn Astro, Ben Hauke (Church), and Laolu.
XOA’s live shows – which mix electronics and live instrumentation – have already gained a solid reputation with appearances at Brixton Electric, The Forum and a sold out headline show at the Jazz Café. As a versatile DJ, XOA will next bring his eclectic selections to this year’s Funk & Soul Weekender, May 12–14 at Camber Sands.
Ahead of his appearance there next weekend, Tyson now takes to the Hyp mix series with a dancefloor-ready assortment that spans Daphni and Romare, Glenn Astro, DJ Click and more.
XOA plays The Soundcrash Funk & Soul Weekender, May 12–14. Get tickets here.
