Hyp 185: Glenn Astro

Glenn Astro is a name that has been popping up on our radar almost constantly this past year. This young producer who’s currently residing in the town of Hattingen in the Ruhr region of Germany is affiliated with the Tartelet Records crew and likes to hang around Berlin’s OYE Record Store with friends and collaborators such as Max Graef, IMYRMIND, Frits Wentink and Wayne Snow. In a relatively short space of time,  he has created his own organic sound that glistens with a whole lot of groove. Drawing from Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul and Broken Beat he thrives on exploring new directions in sample-driven alternative House.

Glenn has previously released for Tartelet, Outernational and our friends at Wot Not Music. He’s also provided a plethora of guest remixes on EP’s for eclectic imprints such as Project Mooncircle, Dirt Crew and The Gym. With an EP out on Space Hardware shortly and his debut album due to drop via The Gym this Summer, Glenn is well and truly going places and we’re delighted to have him on board for this week’s mixtape.

Hyp 185 is a smooth blend of golden-era Hip Hop, Disco & syncopated House. It perfectly sets the scene for a hazy Summer’s evening. It features Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Common, Orlando Julius, unreleased work and rounds things out in superb fashion with with some hazy Surf Rock from none other than Mac Demarco…

Glenn Astro will play at Studio Spaces in London on the 16th of August, for tickets visit here. For more information about the artist connect with him on Soundcloud, Facebook and Twitter.
