Founded by dubstep mainstays Dusk and Blackdown way back in 2005, Keysound Recordings has enjoyed a second wind of late, with their newest wave of artists helping to position the label as one of the UK’s premier sources of forward thinking bass hybrids. A well received label compilation earlier in the year, followed by the debut LP from E.M.M.A, have only served to cement this reputation, with their latest release, Etch’s ‘Old School Methods’ EP, sure to add to it.
Where label mates Visionist, Wen and Beneath have skewed grime and dubstep on previous releases, 21 year old Brighton native Etch borrows from the amen driven sounds of jungle on his debut. Whilst he retains the dark-lit urban vibe that has become a Keysound trademark, Etch adds a healthy smattering of breaks on several tracks, delivering a fresh update on the eyesdown template.
Looking to gain more of an insight in to a producer who has grabbed our attention, and will doubtless grab yours, we got Etch to deliver this week’s Hyponik mix. Over 40 plus minutes Etch treats us to a range of moods and genres, courtesy of unreleased tracks by himself and label mate Wen as well as several cuts put out on the likes of Hotflush and Tectonic. A superb interpretation of the underground from a producer who looks set to be making waves for years to come.
