It’s almost churlish to mention at this point, but there’s not a whole lot of producers still making Dubstep out there today. DJ’s like Hatcha, N-Type and Youngsta hold it down on their various radio shows, whilst Mala and Coki are prone to issuing the occasional dubplate kiler – but go beyond this handful of veterans and a slew of newcomers and the list is depressingly short. Thankfully for all those faithful to 140, Solomon Rose – better known, as Silkie, is still very much about. Debuting all the way back in 2003, Rose has spent the ensuing decade and a bit establishing then cementing his reputation as one of the most dependable producers in the genre. His uncommon level of musicality saw him push out his two ‘City Limits’ albums as well as EP’s and 12″s for his now discontinued Anti-Social imprint and Mala’s Deep Medi, creating some of the most melodious tunes ever to grace the genre in the process.
Set to line up alongside old sparring partner Quest at Fire tomorrow night, where Coki, P-Money and N-Type will also be in session, we got Rose to contribute to this week’s YouTube Sessions. Here with incredible pranks, pioneering scientists and a good headstart to learning Spanish we have his versatile selection for your viewing pleasure.
Insane Cheating Girlfriend Prank (animated) – Ownage Pranks
One of the funniest pranks I’ve seen. He does the black American voice pretty spot on.
ELDERS REACT TO DUBSTEP (SKRILLEX)
This just makes me think what will we think when we are their age. Their reactions are very funny.
Nikola Tesla: Great Minds
I love science and this channel ‘Scishow’ does a great topical show and this episode happens to be about my favorite scientist.
REVENGE 2 – POISINOUS MUSHROOMS PRANK
The guy’s reaction to this prank is great. Turn on the subtitles they are from the Czech Republic.
Jane Elliott A Class Divided
This is an eyeopening documentary about class and race that is very interesting and really goes beyond that. It can be applied to a lot of deeply held beliefs.
Try The McGurk Effect! – Horizon: Is Seeing Believing? – BBC Two
This proves that want you hear is affected by what you see. Pretty amazing, try it for yourself.
How to Speak/Practice a Language
I’m learning Spanish at the moment and I use this guy as inspiration, he knows so many languages. Turn on the subtitles for this one.
CB4 Straight Outta Locash
An NWA spoof film from my childhood my first taste of Chris Rock from 1993.
Bill Burr You People are all the Same
I kinda stumbed across this comedian and he’s on point. He talks about stuff you don’t usually hear.
The Cannibal Warlords of Liberia
This is one of the most fucked up documentaries I’ve seen. Viewer beware.
Silkie is playing at Fire tomorrow night Friday 8th August. Buy tickets here.
