IGLOOGHOST

YouTube Sessions: Iglooghost

Welcome to Iglooghost’s YouTube rabbit hole, where Clean Bandit and Sam Pepper get ripped apart.

First grabbing our attention on social media back in 2013 with his distinctive style, precocious Irish-born, UK-based producer and designer Iglooghost has rocketed to success since. After appearing on Slugabed’s Activia Benz label in 2015 with his Milk Empire collaboration with Mr. Yote, he got picked up by FlyLo’s Brainfeeder for the gloriously hyperactive explorations of the Chinese Nü Yr EP, which included stand-out track ‘Xiangjiao‘ – the tale of a gelatinous worm witch of the same name. Treating the foundations of footwork, R&B, hip-hop and IDM as putty on that release, the young producer returned to the label with last month’s excellent Little Grids EP.

Iglooghost will be coming to Outlook Festival this year alongside the likes of Kode9, Riz La Teef, DJ Taye and Madam X. Ahead of the festival, we’ve picked his brain for an insight into his YouTube browsing history. One of the most entertaining selections you’ll find in the series, Iglooghost presents us the dismantling of unsavoury YouTube star Sam Pepper, obscure Japanese math rock synced to clips of Spirited Away, and his own thoughts on that painful Clean Bandit ad for Windows. Enter the rabbit hole…

1. Baraka – I’ll Be There

ONE OF THE BEST PIECES OF MUSIC I EVER HEARD EVER AND I ONLY HEARD IT LIKE LAST MONTH.

2. Kickstarter TV: Where Dreams Go to Die

SAM HYDE IS A TERRIBLE, DISGUSTING, HATEFUL MAN WHO I FIND REALLY FUNNY. THIS IS A TRAILER BUT IT’S A RLLY GOOD ENTRY POINT IMO.

3. Total Solar Eclipse 20.03.2015 from plane

WATCH IT WHILE LISTENING TO THIS & IT FEELS LIKE THE SUN IS SLOWLY FIZZING OUT & UR TRYING TO ESCAPE ON A REALLY SHITTY HALF-BROKEN PLANE THAT COULDN’T REACH HIGH ENOUGH, SO UR SORT OF JUST GLIDING ALONG THE OZONE LAYER & WATCHING THE SUN DIE.

4. OORUTAICHI – FUTURELINA(PV)

CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY ELECTRONIXXXXXX FROM THE JAPANESE ISLES, MY DUDE.

5. The Assassination of Sam Pepper by the Coward Joe Bish

JOE BISH ANALYSES THE VILE BEHAVIOUR PATTERNS OF TWO DICKHEAD VLOGGERS MY LITTLE SIS PROBABLY WATCHES.

6. Werner Herzog: There is no harmony in the universe

WERNER HERZOG EXPLAINS THE INHERENT TERROR AND CHAOS OF EXISTENCE.

7. NUITO vs MIYAZAKI

OBSCURE MATH ROCK BANGER BY A JAPANESE BAND CALLED NUITO. SOME GUY MADE A NICELY SYNCHRONISED VID OF SPIRITED AWAY FOOTAGE FOR SOME REASON BUT I’M NOT COMPLAINING.

8. Frank Zappa – G-Spot Tornado

JUST WANT TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THE FACT FRANK ZAPPA TIME TRAVELLED INTO THE FUTURE, HEARD MY MUSIC, RIPPED IT OFF, AND RELEASED IT IN 1986. ABSOLUTE PRICK.

9. Cortana gets to know Clean Bandit

INADVERTENTLY THE BEST / MOST HORRENDOUS THING EVER RECORDED. EVERY SINGLE PART OF THIS, FROM ENTIRE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS TO THE TINIEST SPASM ARE ALL UNEXPLAINABLE. HE DOESN’T EVEN FUCKING LAUGH WHEN HE SAYS ‘U MAKE ME LAUGH, CORTANA’ – ALSO WHO THE FUCK HAS EVER SAID ‘U MAKE ME LAUGH’??? IT’S SUCH AN OBVIOUS SET UP FOR CORTANA’S PUNCHLINE. WATCH THE GIANT PUBLIC SCHOOLBOY TRY AND INTEGRATE SUCH AN UNNATURAL THING TO SAY INTO A SORT OF POST-GIGGLE REMARK. HE DOESN’T FUCKING BELIEVE ANYTHING HE’S SAYING. LOOK AT THE LITTLE WEASLE-Y CUNT IN THE BACK AT 0:12 STRUGGLE TO MUSTER UP A SMIRK AFTER PROBABLY DOING 19 TAKES OF THE SCENE. YOU CAN FEEL HIS CHEEKS ACHING AND TWITCHING FROM STRESS JUST FROM WATCHING IT. LITERALLY REWIND EACH SHOT AND JUST INDIVIDUALLY WATCH EACH BAND MEMBER (IS IT A BAND??? THEY SORT OF MAKE REALLY POLITE HOUSE MUSIC FOR ADVERTS – WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM???) & IT BECOMES MORE AND MORE BAFFLING. WHY ARE THEY ALL SO POSH AND WHERE DID THEY MEET??? SO MANY QUESTIONS. EVERY TIME THIS CAME ON THE TV I’D THINK ABOUT IT FOR FUCKING HOURS & GET IT UP ON YOUTUBE. I’M CURRENTLY ALL 431,699 VIEWS. THE 435 DISLIKES ARE ALL ME ON DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS – SAME GOES FOR THE 271 LIKES. THAT’S HOW BAFFLING IT IS TO ME.

10. Laraaji – I Am Sky

NICE OLD MAN PLAYING A ZITHER SO I CAN RELAX AFTER WATCHING CLEAN BANDIT DO A MICROSOFT AD.

Iglooghost plays Outlook Festival, Croatia, 31 Aug – 4 Sep. More info and tickets here.
