More than 10 years since he first started making a name for himself, the Ghetts of 2014 is almost unrecognisable from the road-repping youngster he once was. First earning his stripes as part of N.A.S.T.Y crew, he’d soon splinter off to form The Movement with mates Wretch32, Devlin, Scorcher, Mercston and Lightning – with the group going on to push a more Hip-Hop leaning take on Grime that won them fans and critics aplenty. Perhaps reflective of how far the scene as a whole has moved on, The Movement have all individually achieved varying levels of commercial success that would have once been hard to imagine during the underground, mixtape focused days of the mid noughties. Ghetts for his part finally released his debut album proper, ‘Rebel With A Cause’, earlier this year – an album that was carefully balanced between the streets and the charts.
Nominated for 3 MOBOs following the release of the album, Ghetts has been putting together a live show with his band The Rebels and is gearing up to release the emotive ‘Fire Burning’ as a single. With all this on his plate, we invited him to drop this week’s installment of YouTube Sessions and he duly obliged. Read on for clashes of the Grime and Dancehall variety, reloads galore and a classic bit of awards show footage.
Mavado vs Vybz Kartel
This is one of the most exciting clashes I’ve ever seen in my life.
Alaskan News Reporter Quits On Live TV
I’ve never seen anything like it.
Kanye shouts at Sway
Kanye is one of the most honest of all artists. Love or hate him at least we always know how he really feels. You can’t say that about other artists in this day and age, everyone else is too calculated.
Beyoncé – Flawless (Remix) ft. Nicki Minaj
I love this; the sound, the way it was shot – no pun intended – it was a flawless performance.
MK at Coronet Theatre London playing Look Right Through (MK Dub III)
I was in there at the time and normally the camera doesn’t capture the moment, but it happened to capture this moment.
Best of Eskimo Dance: Top 30 Reloads
This is classic. I picked this video because we’ll never be able to recreate something like this. A moment in time.
Kanye ruins Taylor Swift’s VMA award moment
Kanye is the only person in the world that would get up on stage and do that. Everyone else would just say it at home, sitting on the sofa.
Rihanna throwing popcorn at the VMAs
I love this clip. It’s so funny and shows Rihanna is still a human being and still as fucked up as the rest of us.
So Solid performing 21 Seconds/Ride Wid Us at The Brits
They let us know that it was possible.
Dizzee vs Titch Conflict
This is one of the greatest moments in Grime.
