This week we’ve got a beaming mix of Brazilian Samba, Disco, Funk, Instrumental Jazz and the obligatory helping of classic DnB from legendary Brazilian selector, DJ Marky. Regarded as a superstar in hometown Sao Paulo, and as one of Brazil’s best DJ/producers, this man has a long standing affinity with breakbeats. He first began getting his name out there in the early 90’s, being a core component in pioneering the sounds of UK DnB & Jungle. As the scene blew up so did he and he eventually found himself playing to crowds of thousands, holding international DJ and radio residencies, presenting a show on MTV, doing sets for Radio OnE, putting together massive DnB compilations, featuring on the Fifa Street Soundtrack and most unforgettably, he gave us the ubiquitous classic ‘It’s The Way‘ – it’s all in a day’s work for Marky. DJ Marky lines up at Village Underground next week, so in preparation why don’t you kick back, crack open that cold one you’ve been staring at in the fridge all week and let this be the soundtrack to jumpstart your weekend.
DJ Marky plays Village Underground in London on April 4th
Cláudia - ‘Mudei de Idéia’
Probably one of the first songs I remember falling in love with as a kid. It’s really simple but
so warm, and I love Claudia’s voice.
Caetano Veloso – ‘Torno a Repetir’
This is just one of those typically Brazilian sounding tracks. It reminds me of lazy summer
days and everyone singing along when we got together as a family.
Marcos Valle - ‘Freio Aerodinâmico’
Marcos Valle was a definite favourite of my parents back in the day, and still is now. This
track is real calm and kind of frantic all at the same time.
Kleeer - ‘I Love to Dance’
Some proper Brazilian Disco funk! The slap bass makes this track and the name is so
right. I LOVE TO DANCE, especially to this track.
Bob James – ’Tappan Zee’
Pure instrumental genius. It’s another one from my youth and reminds me of listening to
music with my Dad at home.
Skyy - ‘Here’s To You’
This is always in myDisco sets. It’s a classic track, and I think that even if itwas released
now it would do really well in the charts. Skyy made some amazing tracks, but this
is definitely one of the best.
Marcus Intalex & ST. Files - ‘Universe’
I love this track. It can still drop this on the dance floor now and it rocks the place. Marcus
and ST made some incredible tunes and this is one of them.
DJ Zinc - ‘Casino Royale’
Classic Zinc. When this tune came out I played it so much I actually wore out a couple of
copies of it. True DnB classic.
Calibre - ‘Even If’
The mighty Calibre! The guy cannot make a bad tune, seriously! This is an excellent
example of how beautiful DnB can sound.
Kon & The Gang - ‘Get It Together’
Another one for my disco boogie sets. When you need to wind things down a bit and get
people back to the dance floor, this is the one. Fantastic track with a great melody.
