To celebrate three decades of one of the world’s greatest electronic music labels we have an almighty bundle of goodness up for grabs…
London based via Belgium, R&S has been one step ahead of the pack since 1984. Beginning as the brainchild of couple Renaat Vandepapeliere and Sabine Maes ( the label takes its name from their initials ), the label initially supported a blend of Belgian and international talent, notably giving American electronic music demigods like Joey Beltram and Kevin Saunderson some of their earliest European releases. Classic albums like Aphex Twin‘s opus ‘Selected Ambient Works’ saw them cement their place in history, although they suffered a slight slump in the early to mid noughties. Relocating to London and falling under the stewardship of Andy Whittaker and Dan Foat saw them stop the rot and return to their rightful place as one of the most enduringly relevant institutions in electronic music. With recent years seeing releases from James Blake, Lone, Space Dimension Controller, Blawan and dBridge to name but a few, the label is now primed to celebrate its 30th anniversary in style.
This Friday sees Broken and Uneven welcome R&S’ as the latest curators of The Hydra, with the label roping in an all star cast to help them crack open the birthday champers at Shoreditch’s Village Underground.
