Sub-heavy floor fillers that have taken off in MCR.
With contributions to Hyperdub, Keysound, and Tectonic, Manchester producer Walton has been churning out off-kilter bass experiments for over five years. He most recently released the Taiko EP on Madam X’s Kaizen imprint, where he combines razor-sharp grime, sparse techno, and sublime ambience across four tracks – emerging as another powerful instalment in the young label’s catalogue.
It was around this time last year that Madam X gifted us eight essential club tracks from Manchester, and now Walton steps up to the plate with eight tracks currently heating up the city’s dance floors. You’ll find weighty, abrasive cuts from Pinch and Riko Dan, Hodge & Ishan Sound, Commodo, and more.
Dig into the selection below ahead of his set at this year’s Outlook Festival, where he’ll play alongside the likes of Dizzee Rascal, DJ Shadow, Wiley, and Goldie.
Chunky ft T-Man – Threat
Manchester banger from Chunkz and T-Man.
Walton – Taiko
My favourite cut from my most recent EP. Made this a few years back and have been playing it ever since. Really happy to finally get it released.
Pinch ft Riko Dan – Screamer VIP2
Big 130 banger from Pinch & Riko… and the VIP destroys.
Hodge & Ishan Sound – ?
One of my favourites at the moment and really useful to bridge the gap between 130 & 140bpm
Wen ft Riko – Play Your Corner (Walton Remix)
Been playing this in pretty much every set I’ve done since it was finished and it still gets a massive response. A firm favourite from my back catalogue.
Tarquin x TSVI x Luru – ?
Fun funky vibes from Tarquin, TSVI & Luru. Could have picked plenty of tunes from the Nervous Horizon crew but this is the latest addition to my sets and it bangs.
DJ Sinclair – Bells (RPG Mix)
DJ Sinclair has got a few sick dubs knocking about at the moment. Love the melodies on this beatless grime banger.
Commodo – Lightz
Hands in the air vibes. This tune goes down perfectly towards the end of a set and Commodo is a badman.
Walton plays Outlook Festival at Fort Punta Christo, Croatia, September 7–10. Get tickets here.
