Continuing our exploration into the minds, techniques and sounds of some of our favourite producers, this week we settle down to some dubbed out experimental sound with London’s own Tapes.
The young producer first came to Hyponik’s attention a couple of years ago, with his Jahtari-released ‘Compuriddims EP’ taking in some of the finest analogue-anchored future riddims we’d heard for some time, blending his love for the analogue sound of the past with some modern computer techniques to create bashy dancefloor-fillers ready made for the dance.
More recently, Tapes has been involved with the fledgling Selah Waddada labels first release, Joe White – ‘You’ll Never Know Another Love Like Mine’/Unknown Artist – ‘Version’, and working on his live show, ready for the summer festival season:
“At the moment my main focus is dub and I’m working on several releases for various labels including my own imprint. I’m also designing some new and very unique live equipment that should be ready for performative use this summer.
There are some pretty exciting rumors about a Jahtari Rhythm Force live band forming up this summer but it’s still early days so at risk of a jinx I shan’t say another word.”
Catch Tapes playing this Friday (March 18) at The Gravy Train in Stoke Newington, and for more information, hit the man up direct at email@example.com.
