Seconds of Sound: FD

Picking up our occasional series of exploratory sound, we call upon close ally and next generation drum & bass producer FD, to put together an original production for Hyponik.

Originally a member of one of London’s best forward thinking club promotions, Medium, alongside the Hotflush-signed Sigha and Neighbourhood’s Tasha, FD’s experience in the low end spectrum of London’s electronic music scene has seen him progress into one of drum & bass’ freshest new talents.

Having made a dent on the scene in 2010 with releases on Metalheadz, Critical and Total Science’s new C.I.A Deepkut imprint, FD’s technoid soul pulls in the strands of early Virus-era drum & bass, dark 2-step and deep mechanics of the finest techno, and sews them up into 170 bpm futurist steppers (just check last years ‘All That We Are’ collab with Ulterior Motive).

For his Seconds of Sound, FD turned in a minute and a half of layered ambience, telling us; “the music is just a collection of some of my favourite types of sounds, all mashed together, EQ’d, effected or processed offline, to make them all fit. There’s also a sample from a really important artist to me, who just passed away, as I was thinking about that at the time too.”

Keep an eye out for forthcoming releases on both Subtitles and Invisible labels later this year, and check out FD’s Soundcloud for more productions.
