In Pictures: Jamz Roller Disco at Shapes

We spent an evening bussin’ gun fingers and skating…

‘Grime Roller Disco’ – a combination of words arguably as unlikely as ‘Deep House Water Park’ and ‘Techno Lazer Quest’. Elijah and Skilliam and their Butterz cohorts however couldn’t give a toss about convention, and so it was last Saturday 20th October that they descended on Hackney Wicks’ Shapes to host what was most definitely the first event of its kind anywhere in the world. To call what unfolded ‘Grime’ a night would be a little bit inaccurate, with the likes of Flava D, Swindle, Royal-T and others bringing a nice helping of Garage, House and other styles to soundtrack the skating/stumbling taking place in the middle of the venue. Come nightfall though, it was a full on 140 plus barrage – reloads and all, as Spooky smashed out hi-octane edits and VIP’s before the whole crew took turns going back to back to round things off. No one quite cracked the roller skate skank yet – although hopefully there will be plenty more chances to do so…
